Unable to get Telnet for Ubuntu server

Hi Good morning Friends,

I have installed ubuntu-11.04-desktop-amd64 version.
I am able to get SSH console after installing SSHD package from Internet.I have also installed xinetd (Telnet package)package. But when i restart/ Start /Stop telnet service it syas it is alredy started. And when tried stop shows stop/wating,
I have tried takeing telnet for this server but aunable to get tell net says network error.
I ma new to Ubuntu can some one help me.



root@virtual-machine:/tmp# service xinetd start
start: Job is already running: xinetd
root@virtual-machine:/tmp# service xinetd stop
xinetd stop/waiting
root@virtual-machine:/tmp# service xinetd restart
restart: Unknown instance:
