I was fooling around in Gnome 2, but when I gave up and went back to Unity (I accidentally deleted the panel applet in the top right corner and couldn't get it back, and couldn't figure out how to install globalmenu) I found a new icon on my desktop and Unity dock: BDE.

Its icon is just a generic hard drive. It's name is simply BDE. Clicking it opens a folder named BDE. Right-clicking gives only the option to open BDE. The icon can be unmounted but cannot be moved to trash. I'm a Linux noob and have no clue what this could be.

I want this icon gone, but Google has given me no answers. Please, help!

Hello and Welcome

Right click the icon and select keep in launcher to remove the check that keeps icon there . If that doesn't work try the following command in the terminal .
unity --reset-icons
