I have bought a UNIX book just to learn more about UNIX and the shell and my question is: the ubuntu gnome-terminal behaves same as UNIX? I mean, if I full screen for instance the terminal it's like I'am running a UNIX OS(I know that linux is a unix-like OS but it is the same?)?
Thanks!

Linux is as much like any given UNIX as any given UNIX is like any other UNIX.

If your book is all about command line stuff, it should mostly apply to Linux.

Some UNIXes, like OSX or Solaris, use a lot of the same GNU and BSD software that Linux uses.

Okay, so I can exercise with the terminal and practice in UNIX commands the same way as UNIX OS works.
Also, the UNIX OS isn't it a free software?(i.e. HP-UX, IBM AIX)

No, those are not free but you can look at Solaris. Alternatively look at the BSDs, they are essentially Unix, just not certified as such.

It is exactly the same, except where it is different...

HP-UX and AIX are both assuredly not free, and they run on custom high-performance RISC hardware (HP Integrity and IBM Power Systems.)

Generally, Linux will be reasonably close to the UNIX systems for the basics. In-depth systems administration will be quite different, even between the three big genetic UNIX flavors (HP-UX, AIX, and Solaris).
