Apparently a chatbot called Cleverbot has passed a Turing test. The test version was more powerful than the online version (did more runs over it's conversation database) but you can test Cleverbot out here
http://www.cleverbot.com/

An article about Celverbot: http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn20865-software-tricks-people-into-thinking-it-is-human.html?DCMP=OTC-rss&nsref=online-news

From my personal experience Cleverbot produces funny (yet inconsistent) answers, a little excerpt:

(this is from two separate conversations)

User: You know Linux?

Cleverbot: Yes.

User: What is Linux?

Cleverbot: It's mouthwash that you use in your computer.

User: You know Linux?

Cleverbot: No?

User: Really?

Cleverbot: Yeah...

User: What is Linux?

Cleverbot: Linux is a free operating system designed by Linus Torvalds.

User: So you do know!

Cleverbot: Know what?

User: What Linux is.

Cleverbot: What is god?

User: You are asking me?

Cleverbot: What is my prize?

I once was talking to clever bot. Here is one funny line I remember.

NightwishFan: May the force be with you.
Cleverbot: Why you stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf-herder!

Edit (Another one)

NightwishFan: Hello Mr. Anderson
Cleverbot: Why Mr. Anderson why you persist!

Apparently I'm a computer and cleverbot can produce human life!

Me: Do you know what Linux is?
Cleverbot: Linux is the best OS in the world.

Me: What do you think about Microsoft?
Cleverbot: A god damn money maker.

Me: What do you think about Linux?
Cleverbot: A lot better than Windows.

If clever bot passed a Turing test, it did it by being a philosophical zombie.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm not aware of any AI/program that has seriously been considered as having passed.

Well, do note it had more runs on the process to respond than the online version does, as noted by the OP.

But the things in posts 1 and 2 have made me laugh the most I have in a long time.

There are some great cleverbots, but could you honestly say that you'd not be able to tell a bot from a real person? ;)

Well, there's some part of this that make it seem a bit inhuman, but for the most part, it does seem a bit human. But you can see for yourself, the turing test's conversations are available at http://cleverbot.com/machine.

Looks like cleverbot has seen the old looneytunes cartoon, where Buggs Bunny and Daffy Duck try to get Elmer Fudd to hunt eachother

Rabbit season!
Duck season
Rabbit season!
Duck Season.
Duck season!
Rabbit season.

The conversations from the offline version are just as bad.

Really really basic questions, from 6 year olds I presume, and it already sounds like a bot.

where do you get offline version?
