Facing problem while changing my desktop background

hey guys,
I am facing some pecuilar problems while changing my desktop background.

When i select a picture to Set as desktop Background it asks whether i want to modify it in preferences and if i chose not to and select 'hide' then it doesn't change my wallpaper. However if I visit 'Open Desktop Preferences' then it changes occasionally(actual word is rarely).

Anybody got any ideas????

This doesn't exactly fix your problem, but a good workaround might be to open pictures with firefox and set them as your background from there.

Maybe it's a bug to the default wallpaper changer, who knows...
