Hey there,

I'm trying to get Ubuntu running on my budget laptop, but I can't seem to get any consistent performance. It runs Windows 7 with Aero just fine, but running a basic Ubuntu install without compiz or any effects seems a lot slower than it should be.

Could it be because the AMD E350 processor just can't cut it? Just seems weird that Win7 can run just fine but Ubuntu can't and lags a bit with everything.

Here's the specs for the laptop: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ca/en/ho/WF06b/321957-321957-3329744-3848802-3848802-5091493-5141503.html

Thanks in advance if you have any input :)

If you can run Windows 7 plus Aero without problems you should be able to run Ubuntu. I suspect that the ATI graphics card may be the problem. Have you enabled the proprietary driver for that card from System-> Administration-> Additional drivers?

Are you using 11.04 with unity? If so try classic desktop instead; it may work better.
