View Full Version : [ubuntu] HP TouchSmart Tm2: Blank screen on disc boot

August 31st, 2011, 11:09 PM
When I try to install Ubuntu 11.04 Natty on my HP TouchSmart Tm2 (Intel i3 "Canadian" version), it loads from a disc, which is an external DVD drive. It loads and I see the purple screen with the little keyboard and human logo, and then after that, the screen goes completely black.

I can hear the disc drive going crazy though like it's doing something, and after a little while sometimes I actually hear the Ubuntu bongo sound at the startup.

I think maybe it's something to do with the graphics processor? or just my laptop screen. Anyone encountered this before?

These may not work for you but many have found them useful. First, try closing the screen and opening it up after the disk drive has settled down. This may turn your screen back on. Another work around for me is to boot on battery. For some reason having the AC plugged in causes a problem.

Good luck

or, if you can, hook up a monitor. Sometimes the VGA/HDMI output is considered default instead of the laptop's monitor
