I have my parents old computer and wanted to install ubuntu on it on the advice of a friend. I want to replace the computer's windows xp. I put the cd in and reboot the computer. I get the ubuntu's desktop backround and the bar along the top. I get a window that asks me whether i want to fully install ubuntu or to just try it and it asks what language i want to install it with. If i click on either of these options it just sits there and thinks. So i went to (i think) system controls and found the 'intall ubuntu'. If i do it from here i get an error message saying that it couldn't access the Xauthorization file or something to that effect....any ideas?

Hi, welcome to the fora.

There could be an error in the Ubuntu install on the CD. Do you get a self-test option in the boot menu?
