in ubuntu gnome2, the file manager can have the addon called seahorse.
This seems to be the only front end for gpg allowing to encrypt, decrypt and sign files.

Under xubuntu , the included thunar seems not to have such capabilities. What should I take under xface, xubuntu for that?

If you prefer nautilus for gpg, you can actually install it in Xubuntu if your computer has plenty of RAM. There are also many other front-ends for gpg, though. I'll throw you a few links to help you out.

List of front-ends for gpg:

GPA looks like a decent front-end that you may be very interested in. I have two links for it.

Hope I've been helpful!

OMK will try this, I have actually the nautilus and seahorse on that computer, but in the ubuntu. I simply installed xubuntu-desktop in addition to the ubuntu 11.04 just to see if it is able to replace it later as the ubuntu-desktop is going sooner or later be unity only.

So in fact the nautilus is here somehow, but not avaiable from xubuntu somehow.

The other front ends, well I know them most, but some of them are for text only, for that I have enigmail, and some work with gpg2 only and so on.
But yes, for some taks it would be ok.
The implementation via seahorse to nautilus is very practical and is all time present.

But will see.

ok, discovered the nautilus with all its goodies in xubuntu too, hope the seahorse will survive when the next version is up.

BTW The GPA in its current state works with gpg2 only, that means it needs gpg2 as it uses some commands only there exist.
But on the other hand, gpg2 is not 100% backwards compatible, so no, it is not a replacement of let say seahorse or enigmail.

So you did get nautilus running in xubuntu? I thought that that would probably be the ideal solution for you if your computer can handle it fine (nautilus consumes a relatively large amount of memory). Anyway, I hope I was helpful with what I posted and that your discovery of nautilus in xubuntu satisfied your needs and desires.
