I have just started using lubuntu after looking for a slimmer version of ubuntu for my old laptop ... and it is fantastic! However I had previously loaded xubuntu and when shutting down I still see a black screen briefly with the word xubuntu across the middle (& the mouse logo). It doesn't really matter but I thought it may be using some resources that I could recover ... and it irritates me! I have seen a sudo command on the internet to completely remove xubuntu ... should I do it, or might it damage my lubuntu set up? (I spent ages getting the panel how I like it!)
In fact, there is also a long sudo command to remove ubuntu itself ... should I use that also?
Thanks Paul

So I gather that you added Lubuntu on top of an existing Xubuntu installation? That's why you still have the Xubuntu splash on boot-up.
You want "pure LXDE" on your 'buntu, follow the guide here (http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/purelxde)!
Enjoy!

Hmm ... this is what happened next!
I ran the script to remove Ubuntu then sat & watched nervously for half an hour as it uninstalled everything. After I had rebooted I found that some applications had been removed which I had wanted to keep e.g. Gwen, Firefox, Ubuntu software centre ... easily fixed and now back again. However it had also re-installed stuff that I had previously removed e.g. gnome screensaver, which conflicts with xscreensaver that I prefer. Looks like I'll have to go through everything and customise it again.
I've also noticed that I don't have an application to customise the 'start up' applications ... any advice? I like to remove things that I never use e.g. bluetooth.
Other than that I'm quite pleased with my Lubuntu!
Thanks
Paul

I had the same problem, I use both Gnome2 on 10.10 and Xfce.
When you log in, on the screen where you select the user and enter your password, once you click which user you want, on the bottom panel there should be an option to choose which "session" you want to use.
Something like Xfce4 session, Ubuntu Desktop Session, lxde, whatever you've got installed.
