My usual way of opening a bookmark link in a new tab in Firefox is to right-click the link on the Bookmarks menu and select "Open in a new tab". With Unity, right-clicking the link just opens it in the present tab, as if I had used a normal left click.

Use middle-click.

Try holding down the Cntl key and left-click on the link.

That's what I do to open a bunch of Forum posts I am subscribed to when I am on my laptop without the mouse.

Neither of the above suggestions work - quite irritating

As per manney's post, #19...

"Disabling the Firefox extension Global Menu Bar Integration 3.2.3 gave me back full functionality."

This works for me! Right clicking a bookmark now gives me the old menu with 11 choices including "Open in a New Tab".
