Which version of Ubuntu should i use for my new laptop?

I just bought an Aspire One.

Curious if i should used the Ubuntu 64-bit or the generic Ubuntu Netbook addition? I have some install discs for Ubuntu, that may now be outdated. Is there 64-bit netbook support yet? Any help will, as always, be appreciated! =D

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to install ubuntu -64bit just find as long as the architecture of you computer support it which is more then likely. the ubuntu netbook on is only cut down by a little bit just to fit the needs of the conventional netbook user probably.

http://www.ubuntu.com/download has two versions of Ubuntu: Ubuntu and Ubuntu Server. You need Ubuntu.

(the Ubuntu Netbook name is confusing and used for different purposes. I believe now it's for ARM based system, which you don't have, so ignore it.)

Your URL http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Acer-Aspire-One-722-Netbook.56413.0.html states it has a 64-bit OS and runs 64-bit apps, so, yes, the 64-bit Ubuntu will work on this machine.

You really don't need a Netbook version of Ubuntu since you have a 1280x720 pixel display that is 11.5 inches. I use the non-Netbook Ubuntu with a 10.1 inch display, and find it to work quit well. Your computer should support either the 32-bit or 64-bit version. After Ubuntu 11.04 was released, there really isn't a Netbook version of Ubuntu. Ubuntu 11.04 is intended to work on both platforms. The current movement in operating systems is to have one version that works on both platforms; therefore, I would try to use the standard non-Netbook install.

Thank you very much for your help, i'll be installing 64-bit as soon as my eternal DVD drive (Linux compatible) shows up in the mail from newegg. =D

You don't need to wait for an eternal (LOL) DVD drive: you can create a bootable Ubuntu USB-stick in another computer (booting from the Ubuntu CD in that other computer, then start usb-creator-gtk and following the instruction), and then let the laptop/netbook boot from that USB-stick.

I'm typing this on Ubuntu on a Samsung netbook, which has no optical drive at all ...

The Acer probably has Microsoft Windows so you could download Ubuntu and UNetbootin using Windows. Then use UNetbooten to create a bootable USB for installing Ubuntu on the Acer. I would download from one of the Ubuntu torrents listed on the download site. Torrents are faster and less apt to getting corrupted.
