I am swapping my 320gB for a 1tB and switching from Win7 to ubuntu 11.xx and need some insight on how to format a new drive for a solid install without adding a partition or using Norton Ghost(dont crucify me on this...) I have my A+ for hardware but software still confounds me...
heres the current set up: Dell 1505(insp 6400 Core Duo), 320gB, 2x DDR3 SDRAM 1gB, and Win7 Pro,

I wish to keep the current drive and swap the drives out, saving the Win7 and other items on an external, which may cause some confusion, but if I need another copy for "any problems" I can always fall back to something. Thanks for your inputs!

You have two options let Ubuntu format the drive during the install or picking the partitions yourself.

If you are unsure, please just go with the automated installer. You do not wish to do something wrong accidentally and have to fix it later.
