I always recommend my students to seek out and join their local LUG.
Anyone in UK is usually within reach.
Ubuntu is a popular distro at most meetings but its always possible and interesting to see and try another distro.
Its a certainty someone at your LUG will be running something exotic.
Give it a go!

Edit: I didnt really want to start a new thread so thought Id add this link as it came from the site linked above. Its Jono Bacon's Blog and has some very good screnshots of 11.10.
It looks very exciting.

Nice LUGs, baby!

Sorry...

The nearest LUG to my little home town is 60 miles away. A friend and I went and it was just a bunch of guys drinking beer and trying to get us kids to join in. No one mentioned Linux... but to be fair, we didn't stick around very long, so perhaps the subject came up sometime after we left.

I'm not sure what I would do at a LUG anyway, unless it was a "kids' LUG" and we had a project to do, like loading 'nix on some old 'puters to donate to charity or something.

Please do use the http://lug.org.uk/ and look up Lincolnshire LUG.

We are on a mission to drum up members and get the Lincolnshire LUG more active. It has been rather quiet for a few years. The main site currently being (accesible via the lug.org.uk link) and the new discussions going on in it's forum.

I am hoping that by posting here we can gather some more interest for membership in Lincolnshire and move towards the critical mass that's needed to get the momentum to ensure it's a good, social, self perpetuating LUG in the future.

If you are in Lincolnshire, or interested in Linux in Lincolnshire, then please come over to the site and join up / join in !

All the best,
