Error on initial restart after installation

Hi! I have a PC with XP sp3 and have sought to install ubuntu 11:04 alongside. The installation completes and commands me to eject the cd and press enter. On doing this the system reboots but after the opening screen with the commands to enter the bios setup an error appears
"A disk read error occurred"

I am commanded to ctr+alt+del to restart but the same thing appears, over and over.

I can't even get my original XP system going.

be sure you have the bios booting on hdd , not cd

If you have another PC available, Google for Rescatux. That is a CD image that contains utilities by which you can repair your startup -- both for Windows and for Linux.
