For sometime I have been running Ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop. The laptop has no functioning optical drive. I installed it using the flash drive.
Now here is the problem. While upgrading to 10.10 the upgrade paused and would not go any further. I waited a reasonable amount of time, then rebooted. The 10.04 would not load. I tried to install a new copy of 10.10 from a flash drive. No matter what I did, the laptop would not recognize the USB flash drive. Yes, I went into BIOS and did the necessary changes. I have a feeling that it is a hardware problem. Is there any other way to install Ubuntu 10.10?

Thanks

But can you run the Live CD from the USB stick?

Just a thought. I was thinking of doing the following. Wonder would it work.
Put the HD in my desktop. Install Ubuntu. Then put it back into the laptop.
I only use the laptop for occasional web serving.

Just a thought, check the BIOS. Occasionally a flash drive is recognized as another hard drive. Set it to boot before the hard drive of your laptop and you should be good to go.

Thanks, I have done that. Still no good.
