OMG, it is just 525 Mb/s faster than my connection. I bet you can download Skynet with that thing.

Wow. This would certainly be handy with Netflix and ISO files.

I get about 2mb/s for my download speed. Not sure about upload.

The ping should be lower.

Now, that's fast... But is Google really becoming an ISP?

Hmmmmmm.... :-k

I don't think my Ethernet port can take that much per second. :P

I'm lucky when I get 8 mbps... It usually does, but lately we've been having some speed issues where it will drop down to like 1 mbps for periods of time, and I can't function at that speed :P

I would honestly not be surprised if they started doing something like that. I doubt they'd hand out 530mbps to everyone, though :P

They were going to be testing the market in a small number of cities. It seems like a year ago, or so, there was some kind of big contest where cities could make a video saying why Google's internet service should come to them.

Just imagine how fast HD Youtube video would come to you. It wouldn't even need to travel across the internet, just straight from Google's datacenter to you via fibre. You couldn't get a faster download if you had your computer Ethernetted into a Google server!

530 megabyte to everyone is easy and cheap to do.
Just get a simple telecompany regulation forcing the company to invest 60-70% of the surplus in improving infastructure and suddenly the "lol, we won't serve"-problem will go away over night.

Are hard disks able to write 53Mb per second?

And then some! Even cheap Barracudas will get you over 100MB/s.

Don't confuse your bits with your Bytes.

529Mbs = 66.125MBs Yes HDDs can get those speeds.

And I'm lucky to get 1Mbps where I live. Now only if I can get 530Mbps for the same price as my 1Mbps $60.

Not any of mine. But then, I'm rocking 2.5" drives, and the only one with direct Sata connection is 5200RPM. :D

All the others are USB 2.0 and max out at 40MB/s

Luckily though, I've got 8GB of RAM, which should hold the write buffer overflow for most of the things I'd want to download. :lolflag:

1Mbps for $60/m? That's an insult. Pull off your white glove and slap your ISP across the face, that's grievous. :P

Depends on where Polardude lives... If it is in a remote part of
Alaska/Northern Canada, I guess that is as good as it gets! :-s

Try US$40 for 384kbs and that excludes any data which you pay extra for per gigabyte!

Those won't get the required speeds :D My laptop is the same. My desktop drives might just cope but newer 7200rpm+ drives should be ok.

If google offers this for 60 USD/mo in Wisconsin, then TDS, Charter, Road Runner, Dish, AT&T, Verizon, etc. would be out of business almost instantly. Since they charge 60 USD/mo for 3 Mbps.

:O me want!!

right now I am on a 50mbps Virgin Media connection, would kill for a 500mbps line!!

would finally give me the excuse to replace all the 100mbs hubs with gigabit ethernet.
