What do you like to look at all day? Share a background that is optimistic. That is, no tornadoes, or lightning, or even fish swimming around. It should have an optimistic message. Here's mine:

That's not optimistic, that's disturbing.

Don't you feel personally glad that you weren't where a tsunami, or hurricane/cyclone hits?

That settles it, my new background is a burning building in London.;)

(But not really.)

Not particularly optimistic but inspirational in its own way, I think.

(There's a link to a larger version here (http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap110113.html).)

But my wallpaper hardly matters. If I'm in front of the computer, the screen is usually filled with windows so I hardly ever see the desktop.)

Can't get much more optimistic than that.

I see hardly anything optimistic here. OP's background's animal is just too creepy.

Sorry, I can't contribute either. I never change my wallpaper, it's the default.

Now you have to wonder, what does everyone else know that our yellow friend here has yet to find out...

I thought you said you were optimistic. ;)

Let's rephrase the question: what does our yellow friend know that everyone else has yet to find out?

Exactly! The glass isn't half full or half empty. It's exactly the amount of water I need to quench my thirst satisfactorily. ;)

Optimist: The glass is half full.
Pessimist: The glass is half empty.
Engineer: The glass is twice the required size.

Oh, and it seems my wallpapers must be working :P

Hello All

Now, precisely why I find a snowy day on a Scottish hillside optimistic would take too long to explain... creative commons licensed photie from fli**r.

One of my favourites. An extension, spotted on the walls of a water utility company's offices -- Half full? Half empty? Twice the necessary size? Does it even need to be glass?

Off-topic, I'm about to become a water engineer. Woop. :) No, not a plumber.

I tend to cycle between nice landscape photos I've taken, currently Emerald Lake in the Rockies. Often I take photos on holiday specifically intended for my background. Once one photo gets a bit boring, I find another that I feel like looking at, and my spirits are lifted!

BUT, my main computer is a 10" netbook, so I don't actually see the background all that much, except when I Super-S to view all the 9 workspaces I usually use - there's usually one free.

Huh? How is a cat with a strained human smile relevant to natural disasters?

I live in south Florida, I'm no stranger to hurricanes.

That's called putting a guilt trip on someone for thinking something is disturbing when there are things that are much more disturbing out there. You should be happy with every single thing that enters your life because there are people suffering in the world. ;)

And even if your house gets damaged by Irene, it's not as bad as things that have happened to other people. (All joking aside, I hope the hurricane doesn't affect you.)
