Maximized terminal - can't type in application lens

In Ubuntu 11.04, if I have the terminal maximized, hit Super+A, then type, it goes in to the terminal. There's no way to type in the application lens, short of closing it, then opening it with the mouse.

I was surprised I didn't find this using Google. Does it happen for anyone here? Anyone know how I can fix it?
