hey all,

one thing that I don't seem to find which is driving me insane is a simplenote client for ubuntu. There are clients for mac, windows, android... but as far as I have found out, we are left out in the cold.

Anyone knows whether I'm not looking in the right place?

ps: I am aware that there is a chrome extension which allows note syncing with simplenote, but since you have to keep the window active (otherwise it disapears) it is quite frustrating while taking notes from another window

Thanks

Hopefully someone has a better answer, but what I do is pin the web app on Chrome and never close it. When I open Chrome again, the Simplenote tab is there.

Another option is to simply use one of the windows clients with Wine..

I see this thread is semi-old... but in hope that the OP and others can benefit from it I will just leave this here:

I would also LOVE to see a SimpleNote client for Ubuntu. I'm very surprised no one else has commented on this thread to request this.

The Mac client, Notational Velocity, is open source. I'm not a programmer, but I wonder if it would be possible to use the code to make a Linux compatible version?

Is there a place I can request this? Like an open source community?

You could make a feature request on bugs.launchpad.net, but if someone isn't working on a Linux version already, the chances are pretty slim, unless you want to create a version yourself. If you can't code, I'd suggest finding a student that is willing to give it a try.

Thanks Cariboo! Where might I find such a student?

Still haven't found simplenote sync-ing software for Ubuntu, but I HAVE found a Notational Velocity clone.

Notetak is available for download from http://liw.iki.fi/liw/notetak/index.html

It could be further developed to include simplenote sync. Anyone interested in doing this?

Update: Add your vote for a Linux version of Notational Velocity (including SimpleNote sync) here: https://github.com/scrod/nv/issues/2

You could also try Syncpad, a Chrome extension. It syncs with Simplenote and provides offline access and searching.

I'm a heavy simplenote user, so I've tried syncpad on chrome (search can be slow), resophnotes with wine (sometimes freezes) and even the dropbox syncing option of simplenote.

In the end, none of these made me 100% happy, so I coded up nvPY: An ugly but cross-platform simplenote client inspired by nvALT and ResophNotes. Get it here: https://github.com/cpbotha/nvpy
