Nice one! I like the overall "feel" of this...
I've got one suggestion for improvement.
What if you create a version where the logo/lettering is tilted more upright?
You can read the letters sort of all right, but if it wasn't for the fact that
I already know what the circles-logo looks like, I would have had a hard
time figuring out what the shape was supposed to represent.
And yeah, I also think the blue one is the better one...

Thanks everyone.
Dry lips, I took your suggestion into consideration and I have altered the image slightly. The text is still flat but I have tilted the ubuntu logo to make it easier to see.

Yeah freelance, hobbyist to be precise. I mainly create 3D landscape renders as you may see if you have a browse of my deviantart gallery.
here's an example http://dr-druids.deviantart.com/art/Summer-2-202008837

That's amazing! You're really talented, do you know that? What 3d application
do you use then, Blender or non-linux programs?

@ Drylips. for the 3D landscapes I use E-on Vue, a proprietary, windows/mac software. Unfortunately Vue doesn't work with WINE and is about one of the only reasons I still have windows on my machine. By far Vue is my main application.
I have a couple of other applications too like Daz Carrara, again a windows/mac only application which not only works well with WINE in linux but seems to perform better, especially at the render stage, than it does on windows. It was Carrara I used for the Ubuntu wallpaper above.
I do have Blender but find it has quite a steep learning curve compared to the other applications I use and therefore I've never been able to produce anything of worth yet, certainly nothing worth displaying anywhere.

Actually I had Vue 9 Pioneer (the free one) lying around, but unfortunately
it was a bit too slow in Virtualbox... I'll probably have to install XP on a spare
computer or something... :-$ It's a shame there's no thing like bryce, Vue, etc
for linux...
