I am trying to load Ubuntu onto a emachines desktop and it freezes up right after I click on the install button - any help is greatly appreciated

I'm sorry, but we can't help with that vague of information. More info such as specific model, specs (to include processor, RAM, video card, etc), where, exactly, it hangs, what kind of install you're trying to do (regular vs WUBI), etc. Any and all information you can dig up on your system will only help.

It's generally a BAD idea to force an install on an untried machine. You just don't know what is and is not going to work.

Instead, boot from the CD, select the Try Ubuntu mode, wait (maybe a LONG time!), and when you FINALLY get to a working desktop try it out -- to see what works and what does not.

Anything that does not work is goind to range from trivial to impossible to fix. But, at least you can then come back here, search for solutions and/or post threads with the problems you've found.
