View Full Version : [ubuntu] Wireless PC to Stereo Audio Transmitter

Hi all

My PC and hi-fi are too far away from each other to reasonably run a cable between them so I've found this on Maplins -

I've found a couple of reviews on other sites saying it should work no probs with Linux - after all it's just hardware, no software - so just wondered if anyone had had any experience with it or similar?

Found a review - this describes it as made by Lindy but it looks identical to the one Maplins are selling.

Any thoughts appreciated.

it isnt 'just hardware'. you plug a usb transmitter into your machine. its more than likely that the usb transmitter just gets recognised as a generic usb soundcard though, especially since the lindy review says it works on linux. it'll be the same device

Thanks aeiah, just wanted to check it out before spending £40.

I'll be getting it in a few days time so will post then how I get on.

Got the transmitter this morning and it works brilliantly. Simple set up - plug in USB transmitter to PC, connect receiver to hi-fi and plug in to power. Switch it on and connects wirelessly to the transmitter (on a different frequency to wi-fi).

As predicted I just had to switch my audio output in System>Preferences>Sound to the USB Speaker - see screengrab.

Great stuff.

Sorry for digging this up,

-How is the audio quality?
-Is the usb as big as it looks?

Hi Petros

I must admit I no longer use the item. After updating to Ubuntu 11.10, it no longer worked. Shortly after that my PC died altogether and when I got a new PC earlier this year I didn't try it again.

To get the sound from my PC to my hi-fi nowadays I've simply got a 5m cable - old skool!

As for the audio quality of the wireless transmitter - it was pretty good although I did detect interference sometimes - bit like you might get on an FM radio broadcast.

Size - Iíve attached a picture of the two pieces next to a standard CD for comparison.

All the best
