I'm sure the XDA forums have more info on it.

If they ask you to use adb, you will need to get it from here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html. Other scripts are normally phone-specific and need to be downloaded from the XDA pages.

I am interested in doing the exact same thing--please post if you are able to do it. I won't have time to mess with it for a couple more days but I did find this site:
http://www.inspiredgeek.com/2011/04/30/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-sii-s2-using-odin-and-superoneclick-step-by-step-guide/ (http://www.inspiredgeek.com/2011/04/30/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-sii-s2-using-odin-and-superoneclick-step-by-step-guide/)
Although I presume that is through windows. Worst case I can go through a widows machine but I have converted to 100% linux as of May so I'd really rather not have to break the sea.

I don't know if this helps, but have you checked for help on the Android forum?
