Ofcourse it runs slower. But if your computer is a bit more modern you wont really notice that..its just the speed loss of not using a SATA port like your hard disk does (or IDE depending on your computer)

I am not familiar with it, but i also use a usb stick with linux. i have currently Fedora 15 on my 8 gig usb stick installed, because Fedora's grub somehow messes up the Ubuntu grub..so far it isnt that much slower

that depends on the speed of the usb and your hdd one advantage of usb is there no disk to spin or seek time with the head
