I hate it when websites don't use a secure connection for their login/account creation/purchase pages.
Hence, I don't use them.

Is the lack of security retarded or what?

Before retardedness of lack of security, why do you hate secure connections?

You could always try to force websites to use https. I use these add-ons for Firefox: Force-TLS (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/force-tls/) and HTTPS Everywhere (https://www.eff.org/https-everywhere).

He wants the opposite.

It's not retarded, it's all about cost and risk assesment. Sony laid of security people before they where hacked. Running a big site with a small budget probably isn't easy.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work everywhere.

Yes, the add-ons does not know every website supporting SSL/TLS connections.

If you need to authenticate to any service you like, just check for it. Most major service providers support secure connections. Otherwise, see if they support OpenID - OpenID providers, like Google and Launchpad, themselves will have implemented HTTPS.
