I have come to notice that it is very easy to spot Ubuntu on the net... The identity has taken shape nicely.

Take a look at this image for instance.... it is so easy to just know this is Ubuntu (off course an assumption like this may be wrong as anybody could make there distro look like this... but that isn't the point I am trying to make)

I struck up a convo with another Ubuntu user just by hearing his computer start up.

It seems it's getting more popular. I run into a lot more Linux users than I used to.

I have yet to meet another Linux user. That I know of anyway, I'm sure I know a few but I just don't know they use Linux.

Reminds me of this blog entry: http://frenchfortunecookie.wordpress.com/2011/08/11/do-you-know-a-closet-ubuntu-user/

I know (kinda) one guy who uses Ubuntu. I found out by the startup sound his PC made. :D

I have to glance at the screens at the coffee shop, but everyone's always on OSX or Win XP. = P

I do like that Ubuntu is managing to establish that identity for itself (which is funny, because I really don't like or use Ambiance and Radiance, but I still think, "hey, that's us.") My favorite example is the Linux screenshots on the Firefox home page (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/).

I sometimes go out wearing an Ubuntu t-shirt, and usually go out with my glasses case hanging off an Ubuntu lanyard. I've had a couple of comments over the years.

That's OS-specific. Here's what Mac users see:

Yes, but I understand that, and that's why I said the Linux screenshots. What we're talking about in this thread is that Ubuntu's Ambiance theme being recognizably associated with Ubuntu's brand identity (and perhaps even becoming the default representation of Linux.)
