As described here, (http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Creating%20a%20desktop%20shortcut%20to%20a%20web%2 0page) I'm trying to create a web shortcut (desktop file) by dragging the icon from the Firefox address bar to a Thunar folder or desktop. This worked with older versions of Thunar and Firefox, but now that I'm running Xubuntu Natty (Firefox 5 and Thunar 1.2.1) it fails. Depending on the web site I try, it either creates a file containing the page's html instead of creating a .desktop shortcut file, or fails to create any file at all. Can anyone explain this and/or help me fix it?

Try deskCut (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/66/) or SaveLink (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/savelink/) extension.

There is also Drag Tab as Shortcut (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/drag-tab-as-shortcut/), which works with tabs instead of links.

Thanks, I'm aware of the extensions I could use to work around this problem. I'd prefer to fix the problem and use the built-in feature.
