Hello I am new to Linux, I am using Zorin 5.0. I have a question if I log into generic version 2.6.38-08 the desktop shows up like windows task bar and all. see image

If I log in using Generic 2.6.38-10 I get no task bar see second image
I wonder why. I specifically want to use Zorin as it makes my transition or the learning of a new OS easier as it is something I am familiar with
As you can see in second image which is the Generic 2.6.838-10 I cannot get to any thing unless it is on desktop I have to use the "3" finger salute (control alt delete) to restart
I prefer the second but I cannot figure out how to use it to get to items I need no panels what so ever no option to make panels.

Any and all help would be appreciated

I solved the problem, it was initially caused by upgrading the video drivers for Nvidia (GTX 260 card) not the recommended ones but experimental ones on this 64 bit version of ZORIN I wiped out the HD I have set up for Linux (BTW I have 4 internal hard drives) and re-installed ZORIN updated the OS then installed the recommended drivers and everything now works fine
