Greeetings :)

I'm fairly new to this community but let me just salute right from the beginning. I was a windows for a long time but in 2006 switched to Apple. I've been really happy ever since, but my macbook pro is getting old. I'm going to use it just to some basic stuff from now on, like web browsing, office, mp3 ripping, movies, so forth and so son, and decided to give Ubuntu a try.

I downloaded version 11.04 and created a bootable USB using Universal-USB-Installer (my DVD drive is not in very good conditions...) in Windows but when I try to but from it I get the Boot Error message. I also tried burning a converted .img to the USB pen via OS X terminal but i get a Missing Operating System error. I also tried these procedures with different pens - just in case - with same results.
How can I solve this? Maybe I shouldn't be using 11.04?

My Macbook Pro's version is 1.1

Thanks in advance for your patience.
