What does this indicate:

A few reboots ago I found I could only go into Ub via the low graphics mode. There was a problem because when the desktop appeared the usb mouse did not work.

I had to reboot. All subsequent attempts at booting in the same way causes the boot to freeze when creating the ram disk. I can no longer get into ubuntu other than by the liveCD.

Any ideas how to avoid the freeze at the ram disk stage of the low graphics mode?

I am using 11.04

Latest kernel in current live cd?

The live cd's on the ubuntu download site are dated april 2011. Do the current live cd's available for download have the latest kernel?
