i am having ubuntu8.10 and i work with ns-2.34 with gcc-4.3. if i upgrade to ubuntu9.04 will it disturb my ns-2.34 settings . please help

Still now i have not upgraded if'll upgrade will it be problem with ns2.34

man i am saying what i know . upgrade will not remove any of your software its just upgrade its version . so you gonna lost nothing i think . it will keep your software as usual .

9.04 is no longer supported; I suggest you do a fresh installation of 10.04 or newer.

but he said some thing he wanna keep , he dont want to wipe out his settings and software . so fresh install is not good for his issue .

That's why it's a good idea to always have good backups before either upgrading or doing a fresh install.

Since neither 8.10 nor 9.04 is receiving security updates (or any other updates), the OP will have to weigh the risks of continuing to use an old version of Ubuntu versus the necessity of running a particular version of software (ns-2.34 with gcc-4.3).
