Hi. I'm currently running Ubuntu 10.04 minimal, but because I need the vdpau-va-driver, I wan't to upgrade to 10.10. My doubt is if the upgrade won't jump to 11.04 instead of 10.10.

It will display the upgrade to 11.04 not 10.10. Personally not everybody gets things right by doing the upgrade, so it's best to download the 11.04 image burn it to a disc and perform a clean install if possible. Of course before doing this, be sure to backup the files you need onto a flash drive or some other storage device.

No, from 10.04 it will offer to upgrade to 10.10. If this goes well, you could take the chance again and try upgrading 10.10 to 11.04.

Though, I would recommend a fresh install of 11.04 rather than upgrades. If you like a minimal install, this is worth trying:

The thing is I don't want 11.04. Call me stupid, but I don't like "living on the edge". I wanted the LTS version, but the problem is the vdpau-ish thing is not supported so I have more trouble installing XBMC and making it run perfectly on 10.04.
The reason I chose to upgrade and not to install 10.10 directly is because that way I'll have to install XBMC and stuff. I think it's easier to just install XBMC-Live, upgrade to 10.10, and then install the vdpau thing.

About the script, thanks, but I have no problem installing Ubuntu minimal. I've done it lot's of times. My problem is installing XBMC or the things I need so that my ION2 works at 100%.

I understand that, and I don't think it is stupid. I am on 10.10 and will use this one for as long as it is supported.

Though, after four months 11.04 is approaching a mature system. Like most Ubuntus it needed some time after release before one can recommend it. If your upgrade fails, you could give it a try.
