View Full Version : [ubuntu] Finally installed but won't boot properly

August 8th, 2011, 02:39 PM
I've had a lot of hassles getting Ubuntu installed, but eventually, after a lot of browsing here found a way - copied the wubi.exe and .iso files to the same directory on the laptop (HP Compaq nc4200).

All appeared to be OK with the installation process, however, now when I boot I firstly get a white on black screen offering either Windows XP or Ubuntu. When I select Ubuntu three different things may happen:

1) The laptop just switches off.
2) It displays a Ubuntu generated screen with a border and three options - Ubuntu, Ubuntu safe mode, or Windows XP, but before I can select anything the machine again switches off.
3) It goes through to a logon screen, but the keyboard freezes - the touchpad still works but not the buttons.

Can anyone suggest what I do to get a more reliable experience of Ubuntu?

Many thanks

Yes. Absolutely fine - and still is if I select the XP option on booting up.

Hi and welcome to the forums drgrahamwilson :)

What version of Wubi did you install?

Please post the make/model of the computer and the full specifications.

Hello Rubi

Thanks for picking up my thread too.

The machine is an HP Compaq nc4200 running XP Professional with SP3 and with 2Mb RAM installed.

Best wishes
