I've tried several times installing from a live USB, no go. I get through the purplish splash/load Ubuntu screen then it disappears. Text flys across the screen for about thirty seconds and then it ends up here, see attached image. It sits here for a minute or so, then just drops me off at a command prompt. Any ideas?

Oh, have tried both 32 and 64 bit versions as well.

I have a Toshiba L505 and had a hard time due to their bios. I had to add acpi=off to the grub menu to get it to install. However, Toshiba has updated their bios and now the 32 bit will install. I still cannot get 64 bit to install. Check the Toshiba web site to see if there is a bios update for your machine first and then see how it goes.

Good deal! Updating the bios worked! 64 bit version still stalls but the 32 bit worked. Thanks!

I have added more RAM (6gig) and I have install Kubuntu 64 bit on the L635-3030 it just takes forever making you think that it has hung up. Now I am unable to use the Media Keys on top. Tried "Keytouch", "fnfx" and the Toshiba keyboard package. Still no luck.

Any ideas?
