9.04 to 10.04.3

I am on 9.04 but I am having troubles updated to anything. I know there is an order to follow, but the update manager skips straight to 10.04.3 and then fails. Is there any way to upgrade to 10.04.3 other than creating a boot disk? Because unfortunately my cd drive is bad and my bios won't boot from usb.

They are no longer supported is why. There are some old repositories somewhere and perhaps you could upgrade that way. If I find them i will post them later.

@SlyBattery, have another look at the link that Old_Gray_Wolf posted. You haven't followed it correctly. Your system is still looking for packages from the us.archive.ubuntu.com, security.ubuntu.com and archive.canonical.com servers. Your /etc/apt/sources.list file must only have lines for old-releases.ubuntu.com when you do your aptitude/apt-get update. Remove, edit or comment out any lines that refer to any server other than old-releases.ubuntu.com. Also - comment out any lines starting with "deb cdrom:". You don't want a CD as a repository.

Next - that link is out of date and doesn't take into account the fact that Karmic is also end-of-life and you have to upgrade to Karmic before you can upgrade to Lucid. You have to trick your system into thinking that Karmic is still supported. This is what you do. Save the following text as /var/lib/update-manager/meta-release. You'll need "gksudo gedit" to save the file as root.

Once you've successfully upgraded to Karmic, you should be able to upgrade to Lucid with the Update Manager. Just a few days ago I did an upgrade from Jaunty this way and then kept going until I got to Natty - just for the fun of it! I'm posting from the Natty system that was once Jaunty and very well it is running too. Just to naysay all the pessimists who advise against upgrades. :)
