So... uh, what version of Ubuntu you're running on it? And for what purpose (I do hope it's something other than games, some of which is run via WINE... or at least not just for games, but for performance computing)?

By the way that's quite a meaty laptop you have there, which is why I mentioned something about games.

Isn't Optimus going to be a problem? Also just 4GB of RAM? I rather get an i5 and 8GB of RAM.

with bumblebee, my only tradeoff will be losing vdpau (for now)

once the PRIME code lands in mainline trees later this year, i'll be all set

I plan to dual-boot Oneiric and 7 on this.

It's more about having a nice future-proofed laptop that'll last me a few years yet isn't an over-the-top 9lb gaming machine.

Why why why why??? Why more than 4 GB of RAM?
Please explain me...
A native user doesn't need more than 4 GB (2 are good too)....
8 GB RAM are needed only if you want to run all Linux distros available concurrently from VirtualBox... -_-

Sounds close to my new W520. I got the i7-2720QM and 8GB of ram.

The Optimus graphics on mine cause ACPI issues, but perhaps that is due to the Nvidia 1000M which is different than your card.

You have W520. You have a hardware mux in the BIOS that lets you toggle between discrete-only, manual switching, and Optimus

He did say he was going to DB windows 7.

Normally I don't need more than 4 in 7, but when I have WoW on one monitor, and PhotoShop on the other, you get a little high in resource usage. (I have to have something to do, while I wait for my queue:P)
