I am trying to make a navigation aid for the blind people using Intel Atom Processor(1.8Ghz) installed with Ubuntu 10.10 in it and Mobile Phone having internet connection,GPS chip embedded in it...My kit consists of a headset inbuilt with microphone through which the user will speak out the destination. Speech Recognition module should receives this, process and then send the required data to the Google maps loaded in the memory or mobile phone. At the same time, details of the current location (latitude and longitude) are given by the GPS (Global Positioning System) chip embedded in the mobile phone. These details should be used by some APIs developed. And, voice instructions should be given to the blind person (like to move 30feet forward and take right etc.) through headset.

Help required please...
Please help as i m a beginner i dont have much idea of how to start & how to proceed !!!

Hi krishna@bits

The best I can do is to direct you to this site.

http://vinuxproject.org/

Vinux is a remastered version of Ubuntu for visually impaired users. It should prove to be a better operating system than standard Ubuntu as it has a lot more accessibility tools. I think that the folk at vinux would be interested in what you are doing. But I have to say, you have set yourself a difficult task.

Regards.

P.S. I found some more information.

May I suggest that you do a google search on Ubuntu GPS or Linux GPS. Also do a search in the Ubuntu Software Centre of Viking and Gpsdrive
