At some point in the past (possibly pre-10.04) it was possible to choose the window manager from the login screen. Now in 10.04 I can't figure out how to enable this. I have xfce and fluxbox installed as well as gnome, but there's no option on the login screen to pick a window manager. On the bottom of the login screen I see the accessibility preferences, shutdown, and the date.

I've searched and found lots of complaints about Ubuntu removing control over the login screen, but no answer to my question.

And yes, I am aware that from withing gnome it is possible to choose different desktop-managers from System|Administration|Login Screen, but this is not what I want.

Perhpas it is possible to kill gdm as the login screen manager?

Thank you for any help.

You have to click on your username first to get the additional option menus, like "Sessions" you are referring to.

If you have passwordless login enabled, you need to disable it before via "System -> Administration -> Users and Groups".

Thank you! I can't believe I overlooked that. It was driving me crazy.
