Hi, if you are really using 8.10 you will not be able to install updates not even security update or software because that version has reached end of life so the updates and software is no longer on the servers.

Hi, you will need to download ubunbtu from here http://www.ubuntu.com/

Just follow the directions on that website for creating a bootable cd or usb stick then install ubuntu.
Thank you

Hi, you can but you will need to be careful, I am going to give you a link for a guide on installing ubuntu.
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/installing

This guide is as close as I can get to what you need.

The thing you will need to do is open gparted on the livecd then delete your old ubuntu partitions then click install ubuntu and follow the directions at this link.

Please be careful with gparted and deleting partitions, make sure you only delete the ubuntu partitions, if you are unsure take a snapshot of the partitions in gparted and post it here.
