As of July 2011, The LinUX Kernel Archive (http://www.kernel.org/) has the source for Kernel 3.0 available; I am assuming that some fine-tuning will be necessary before the UbuntuŽ Kernel Team releases this Kernel in at least the following Packages for InitRD.img, VMLinUZ, associated core Modules, and Shared Documentation:

LinUX-Image-3.0-generic
LinUX-Image-3.0-generic-pae
LinUX-Image-3.0-ec2
LinUX-Image-3.0-Realtime
LinUX-Image-3.0-Server
LinUX-Image-3.0-Preempt
LinUX-Image-3.0-Virtual

plus additional UbuntuŽ Modules packages as appropriate. With Oneiric advancing to 11.08a3-pre within days of this Post (1 August 2011), I consider it approporiate that the new stable Kernel should be made available to users of 10.04.2-LTS/10.04.3-LTS Lucid as soon as practicable. Approximately how long should this process take, judging from Kernels 2.6.24 (Hardy) and 2.6.32 (Lucid)?

Bump! Looks as though the UbuntuŽ kernel team already went to Kernel 3.1, so this issue is as good as solved. ;-) If we run into a regression, I'll be back. ):P
