Hi, I am not sure that it an connect with a SSID like yours.

Also you should set your encryption to wpa2/aes.
Then let us know if it connects.

Your wired connection does not work either?
Thank you

hello wildmanne, I saw your input in many post i've read lately, i'm glad you came to help me out :)

is the SSID changeable? can we tweak something in the config of the computer to make it work?

There's no way to know about the wired connection because the router is in the apartment above and there is no cable running down. that's why we so desperately need wireless. changing the configuration of the router to wpa2/aes will most likely stress the neighbor but i'll work on it.

i don't know if it may help to say this but the computer in question is a dual boot with XP and is able to access the internet. i also connect wirelessly with my DELL inspiron 1545 (ubuntu 9.04) without any fuss.
thank you

Hi,which SSID are you wanting to connect too? you have three access points listed.

Also your mode is set to master and you need to have it set to manage so let change that and see if you can connect.

sudo ifconfig wlan0 down

sudo iwconfig wlan0 mode Managed

sudo ifconfig wlan0
then see if you can connect.

Also change the SSID to the network you want to connect to by clicking on the internet icon in the top right corner of the screen then click on edit connection the on wireless and edit, then change the SSID to the correct name, and if it does not connect let us know the name you changed it too so I can see if it matches what is in your information.
Thank you

sorry for the delay, i had a school rush... one of those you do not want to go through twice. the computer in question is not mine, i'm still waiting on feedback of my colleague. sorry about that.

by that, i'm must say i am perplexed because i've read this solution you gave to somebody else in an other post, but i've discarded it because the iwconfig said "managed". it is a misread on your part or is it just me who didn't quite get it? either way no biggy

If it is still applicable, I notice that your signal strength for cell 3 (the one you want?) is lower than the strength on cell 2, but they are on the same channel. Can you switch channels? And you are right you are Managed.

yes, it is cell 3 that we ought to be connecting to. as for the strength of the signal, it is surely because the router is on the floor above. I will try to change channel in the coming up days.
should i expect a stronger signal?
does it matter what channel i set it upon? if so, which shall i use?
