"At a corporate level Microsoft has historically been aggressively anti-Linux and anti-open source, but those in its Server and Tools biz are pragmatic. They know that they need to work better with Linux and open source or risk losing operating system, virtualization, and management money to VMware."

Seems perfectly sensible and business like to me, give the customers what they want so they carry on paying the server license.

I ran two ubuntu servers (10.04) on hyper V since, well, april 2010. when they say they arent supported, they dont mean they dont work - they just mean they wont help if it breaks.

Even if Microsoft had ill intent with any of these proceedings, it only makes sense from a business perspective. They don't have much to lose, since this was the point of their kernel patches in the first place.

We'll see how it works out for them. :D Good luck, Microsoft.
