today i added the CPU Monitor applet to my panel (GNOME 2.x) for the first time, and saw that both my CPU's were only at 1.2 ghz out of a potential 2.10 ghz. aside from using the applet, is there a setting to set the default CPU speed? i always have my laptop plugged in, so battery life isnt an issue.

Does the speed go to 2.1GHz when you stress test it? If so then everything is working as it should. CPUs clock themselves down when they're not under high load in order to save power.

i havent checked to see if it goes that high or stays at 1.2 ghz. ill look into that.

Just run something like geekbench or phoronix test suite to stress the cpu out.
