I have a laptop that was partitioned over two years ago by a friend that I've lost contact with. It has Vista and Ubuntu 8.1 installed.
In trying to use Ubuntu today for the first time in two years I discovered that I need to upgrade and whilst I have created a bootable USB drive for 10.10 I cannot get it to work and I don't know how to overwrite the existing Ubuntu partition.
I've googled for assistance which is how I discovered this forum but I must admit that the instructions given have left me more confused as I'm so accustomed to using a GUI and was never a fan of command prompt entries.
I do not want to end up with a laptop that I cannot use as I have no money to be able to put right any 'damage' that I do.
Any advice would be appreciated.
