[9.10 and later] Desktop effects disabled

I have been trying to enable desktop effects but it seems that there's some problem with intel graphics driver. Ubuntu 9.04 and older versions perfectly support desktop effects, everything works great. But with Ubuntu 9.10 and later releases, I am having similar problems.

Ubuntu 11.04 shows this message just after logging in :
"It seems that you do not have the hardware required to run Unity. Please choose Ubuntu Classic at the login screen and you will be using the traditional environment."

While Ubuntu 9.10, 10.04 and 10.10 shows following message while enabling effects :
"Desktop effects could not be enabled."

I did lot of searches, tried everything but no luck.

I have installed Ubuntu 11.04 currently. There isn't "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" file. No extra softwares are installed. List is empty in "Additional Drivers", even after updating all repositories. If I click anywhere, mouse gets invisible till button is pressed, after release cursor gets visible.

My processor is Intel Celeron and graphics is inbuilt, Intel 945G.

Packages, related to graphics, installed are : xserver-xorg-video-i740, xserver-xorg-video-intel.

I am having no problem with any version of OpenSUSE.

Please help me to update correct graphics driver somehow and/or enable desktop effects. Thanks!

After pressing y, it opened Additional Drivers window, as already mentioned list was empty.

Hi, your video card driver is part of the kernel so there is no way to upgrade it.
you can run these commands from a terminal and it will tell us more.

sudo lshw

lspci | grep VGA

/usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p

lspci -k
and post the outcome here by clicking on new reply and click # and paste the information between the brackets.

Hi, I believe with the age of your system you will not be able to get 3d graphics with natty, or any desktop effects. I have seen a few people say that they forced 3d to work but I do not recommend it.

Even if I give up to get 3d graphics, I won't be able to play any video files or games. Problem is with graphics driver in Ubuntu. My system supports Windows Aero, I am able to play heavy 3d games and softwares. I have tried latest version of OpenSUSE, which supports graphics perfectly. I don't think my system is that old. Package xserver-xorg-video-intel has description which mentions that driver is for 9xx, so it must support my system.

Kindly bookmark this thread, so whenever you find any solution or hint, post it anytime, even after a month. I will be waiting for reply.
