Surprisingly relevant - Public Radio International's This American Life did a piece on patent trolls yesterday, "When Patents Attack! (http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/441/when-patents-attack)," primarily on software patent trolls, and had a very unfavorable view of software patents in general while presenting the trolls as a "protection racket." A lot of interesting input from developers, legal experts and the trolls themselves, basically making the case that the patent system has stopped working and never really made sense for software, anyway.

The mp3 is free this week.

Excellent. The missus is a big fan of This American Life (though neither of us is American!), and I'll certainly give this a go. Thanks. :)

Funny how they're distributing it in MP3. But sounds good, I'll give it a listen.
