I haven't built an AMD machine since the Athlon first debuted. So, I am a bit behind on their current products. But, right now the prices seem to be right.
I am thinking of a new machine with an AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103913)and a Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128510) motherboard (links to newegg.com). So what does the community think about this setup in general? Also, can anything think of a reason that Xubuntu will have an issue with it?
I will be running a new(ish) ATI vid card with it. I Haven't decided which yet.
Any input is requested and appreciated.

I own 4 AMD + Gigabyte computers and I am waiting for the new Bulldozer to come out and get a fifth machine. This should tell you how I feel about the combo.
I have no experience with the 9xx chipsets, but 7xx and 8xx are rock solid. I also have easy and full Linux compatibility.
AMD is about to release a new set of CPUs, it should be in the next few months, but there is no definite date. The new CPUs will use the socket AM3+ (all the older CPUs use AM3 or older, however, AM3 CPU runs well on AM3+). You may want to consider delaying your build to get a newer and supposedly much better CPU or take advantage of the lowering of the prices (prices always drop when something new is released). Alternatively, you can get a cheaper CPU now and then upgrade in a few months.
I don't know if the Bulldozers would be 100% Linux compatible upon release.
