In Xubuntu, I can't seem to mark files as executable. I go into the properties, but there is no option to do this. Is there a way to mark .exe and .jar files as executable in XFCE?

Thanks :) it works, I just wish xfce could add a gui to do this, like there is in Gnome

you can create your own thunar custom actions.
see this (http://thunar.xfce.org/pwiki/documentation/custom_actions) and that (http://www.linux.com/learn/tutorials/440846:extend-xfces-thunar-file-manager-with-custom-actions).
