View Full Version : [ubuntu] Installing Windows next to Ubuntu with YUMI and other should-be-non-issues.

When I boot up with YUMI (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/) on my ASUS Eee pc 1215T (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=34-220-857&SortField=1&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=-1&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Keywords=%28keywords%29&Page=1#scrollFullInfo)and attempt to install Windows 7 it says "Booting Boot (Windows 7 ISO) from Memory" than stops at "(hd0 ,0)". That's it. I waited about 10 minutes with nothing.

Now I know for a fact that it is ******* with me because I used this same damn thumb drive(8gig sandisk cruzer with the U3 launcher removed) with this same exact iso and YUMI install to install windows 7 on a friend's ASUS netbook and it worked. So what am I doing wrong?

And am I also correct in thinking that I can restore(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1769482&highlight=versions+ubuntu) the Ubuntu MBR with an Ubuntu recovery disk after I install Windows 7 on a different partition next to Ubuntu?

And lastly, how come when I start up with a dual install (I currently have Xubuntu installed on the partition Windows is going to be installed on) there are 3 versions of Ubuntu to choose from, yet all of them when booted into are seemingly the same? They are, in order;
"Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.38-10-generic",
"Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.38-8-generic",
"Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.35-22-generic".

Also some genius decided it would totally be not confusing to actually show whether the OS's are either Xubuntu or Ubuntu, and the Xubuntu can only be differentiated because its not a "previous" linux version(I installed it after Ubuntu), and it shows up as;
"Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.38-10-generic".

What gives?

edit: Also to clarify I know it would be X1000 easier to have installed Windows then Ubuntu but I hadn't decided until recently and now I have everything on Ubuntu set up as I've wanted it so it's not exactly an option to reinstall...
